Why do we have fears? What purpose do fears serve? Has it ever helped promote development or growth on an individual level, national level, or on a global scale?

These are questions you have to answer for yourself.
It is okay if you do not know them today, tomorrow, or by this weekend. The fact that you are inquiring about it is the first step to many more discoveries along the way.
As Lao Tzu once said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

As you are sitting in quietude inquiring about Fear…Here is a quote by Chögyam Trungpa Riponche from Fear & Fearlessness:

Acknowledging fear is not a cause for depression or discouragement. Because we possess such fear, we also are potentially entitled to experience fearlessness. True fearlessness is not the reduction of fear; but going beyond fear.
